Theatreland has been temporarily closed, we’ve been told by Boris Johnson to work from home and now the country is on lock-down.
For everyone in the creative industries who will be hardest hit by this and are facing the prospect of no work for months; it is more vital than ever before to begin looking after their personal mental health and well-being.
Now Terry Hyde, who is a successful and well-known UK-based Psychotherapist but was a professional dancer with the Royal Ballet and West End musicals, has stepped in to offer some help for dancers during this challenging time.
Terry, who’s actively campaigning for honest proactive discussion and better understanding of mental health and wellbeing in the UK dance industry, is offering all dancers, who are not existing clients, two free video-link therapy sessions to help to support them. He hopes that these sessions will help them to cope better over the coming weeks and months.
Terry said “As a retired ballet dancer I know from experience how mental health issues such as anxiety or depression can affect a dancer’s performance, so for a dancer to be out of work and facing an unstable future the effects can be devastating.
I am offering these free video link or telephone counselling sessions at a very unprecedented time when dancers will need someone to talk their thoughts and feelings through when money is very tight.”
In addition to his counselling sessions Terry presents mental health self-care workshops across the UK and internationally including: the famous Joffrey Ballet School in New York City; Elmhurst Ballet School, English National Ballet School, Royal Academy of Dance and various musical theatre schools.
